Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has gone with Reece Walsh ahead of James Tedesco at fullback for Australia's Rugby League World Cup opener. Walters explained his reasoning for leaving Tedesco out, with reports tying Tedesco's NRL grand final performance to the call.
The decision has sparked debate across the rugby league community, given Tedesco's standing as one of the game's premier fullbacks. It is among the most talked-about selections heading into the tournament.
Jack Preston was also included in the side, picking up his first representative call-up. Preston's inclusion strengthens the group as Australia builds toward the World Cup campaign.
