A Hellenic Air Force F-4 Phantom went down in flames at the Athens Flying Week airshow on 5 September 2026. Both pilots died. The jet crashed during a air display, in front of a large crowd.
The aircraft had been flying in a scheduled display when it came down. Witnesses said they saw the jet come down suddenly before striking the ground and igniting.
Greece declared military mourning after the crash. The loss of both crew members drew expressions of grief across the country. Officials said the aircraft was lost and pledged a full investigation.
